AQL explained
AQL is a sampling setting, not a promise about the box in your hand. How to read it, and what to ask.
Gloves
Sterile surgical gloves in latex and synthetic materials, sizes 5.5 to 9, and sterile exam gloves for procedures and compounding.
Latex gives the highest elasticity and feel and carries FDA's required allergy caution. Polyisoprene is the synthetic with the closest feel to latex. Polychloroprene and nitrile are the other synthetic options, with nitrile offering the highest chemical resistance. Latex-sensitive surgical teams standardize on a synthetic line.
A contrasting underglove shows a breach in the outer glove at once. Undergloves come in green or blue and are listed with their own sizes and pairs per box.
Surgical gloves run 5.5 to 9 in half-size steps, left and right. Operating rooms standardize on a small number of lines and need every half size in stock, so quotes list pairs per box and boxes per case for each size.
FDA's maximum pinhole AQL for surgical gloves is 1.5, against 2.5 for exam gloves. Some lines state 1.0 or 0.65. The material specification is ASTM D3577, which sets minimum thickness, length and strength.
Sterile compounding of hazardous drugs under USP chapters 797 and 800 calls for sterile gloves tested under ASTM D6978. Sterile exam gloves with a chemotherapy claim are listed here with their tested drug list available on the quote.
